Georgette Mosbacher, a billionaire entrepreneur, is not a career diplomat but has long-standing links to the Republican Party and is a personal friend of US President Donald Trump, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

She is the first woman to become America’s ambassador to Warsaw.

Last month Mosbacher praised ties between the two countries in a video message, saying: “Poland and the United States have been friends and allies for over 240 years, and we’re the closest of friends and allies today.”

She noted she was beginning her mission in a special year as Poland marked the 100th anniversary of the restoration of its independence.

Mosbacher replaces Paul W. Jones, whose term as US ambassador to Poland expired this month.
