New US sanctions against Russia, in response to the suspected Novichok nerve agent attack on a Russian ex-spy on British soil earlier this year, are set to enter into effect on Monday, according to public broadcaster Polish Radio's IAR news agency.

The US state department is planning to call off financial aid and a number of weapons deals and ban exports of products and technology connected with security, IAR reported.

Possible US sanctions against Russia over the Novichok attack was first mentioned by American President Donald Trump earlier this month.

The US, like the UK, Poland, and many other European Union and Western countries, blamed Russia for the April attacks on ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia.

The US accused Russia of violating international law.

But Russia denied any involvement in the attack. (vb)
