Jacek Czaputowicz this week took part in a Brussels meeting of the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS during which officials from 77 countries and organisations summed up achievements and discussed future plans, according to the Polish foreign ministry.

The meeting followed a two-day summit of NATO leaders in the Belgain capital, the Polish foreign ministry said on its website.

Czaputowicz declared at the meeting that Poland would continue to be actively involved in the coalition and that the Polish military contingent would also support a new NATO mission in Iraq, according to the Polish foreign ministry.

"I have briefed Allies on Poland's planned engagement in stabilising Iraq in the second half of 2018," Czaputowicz said, as quoted by the Polish foreign ministry on its website.

Poland’s involvement in coalition operations includes advisory services and training for staff and special units, the Polish foreign ministry said.

The US-led military coalition against the so-called Islamic State, formed in 2014, has liberated most of territory in Iraq and Syria once held by the group's militants, according to news reports.

The 77-member coalition includes international organisations such as NATO.
