In a message of congratulations to US leader Donald Trump, Duda wished Americans "success and prosperity" on behalf of the Polish people.

Duda said in his message that Poland and the United States enjoyed special long-standing bonds of friendship and brotherhood.

He noted that America recognised Poland’s independence 100 years ago “as a condition for a peaceful order in Europe after the end of World War I.”

The US embassy in Warsaw late last year launched celebrations of the centennials of Poland regaining independence and the establishment of US-Polish diplomatic relations.
