Arrangements are being made for Polish President Andrzej Duda to meet US leader Donald Trump during a visit to America later this year, Poland’s foreign minister said on Friday.

Jacek Czaputowicz said that such a meeting was “needed” and that he hoped it would take place “after the summer holidays.”

Talking to public broadcaster Polish Radio, Czaputowicz also said that Polish-US relations were "good" and that concern over recent statements by Georgette Mosbacher, Trump’s pick for the next US ambassador to Poland, “has been clarified by the American administration.”

He added that Mosbacher was being awaited in Warsaw.

Czaputowicz noted that the choice of ambassador was a sovereign decision by the United States, the Polish public broadcaster's IAR news agency reported.

A senior foreign policy adviser to President Duda, Krzysztof Szczerski, said earlier this month that Mosbacher would be accepted in Warsaw despite her “unnecessary and mistaken” comments on a Polish anti-defamation law.

During a nomination hearing in the US Senate at the beginning of June, Mosbacher criticised a Polish anti-defamation law, blaming it for triggering a wave of anti-Semitism in Eastern Europe, according to reports.

She also spoke in favour of Poland accepting a certain number of refugees.

The 71-year-old nominee told the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations that she was ready to voice America's support for "essential freedoms" in Poland.

“I am aware of recent concerns about respect for democratic institutions in Poland — freedom of speech, the independence of the judiciary, and the rule of law — and I am ready to voice our strong support for these essential freedoms if I am confirmed as ambassador,” Mosbacher said, as quoted on the foreign.senate.gov website.
