In an official statement, the foreign ministry said that Poland regards Syria's decision to set up diplomatic ties with those territories as a “serious violation of international law”.
“The recognition of the independence of both separatist regions is tantamount to recognising the unlawful effects of the Russian occupation of these territories which constitute the violation of the territorial integrity of the Georgian state,” the foreign ministry said.
The ministry also called for continued international efforts aimed at a “peaceful resolution of the territorial conflict created as a result of the Russian aggression in 2008”. (vb)
