Parliamentary Speaker Viktoras Pranckietis said that Polish President Lech Kaczyński, who died in the disaster on April 10, 2010, was a friend of Lithuania and a man who maintained warm relations with many Lithuanian politicians and diplomats.

Two months ago, a street in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius was named after the late Polish leader, Pranckietis said.

Meanwhile, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius has written on Twitter that Lithuania will never forget the victims of the crash of the Polish plane in Russia eight years ago.

“Poland lost its elite. Lithuania lost its sincere friends. May they rest in peace. We shall forever be with our Polish brothers and sisters,” Linkevicius tweeted in Polish.
