Tribute to Polish diplomats who helped Jews in WWII

The Speaker of Poland’s Senate, Stanisław Karczewski, on Monday unveiled a plaque in the Swiss capital, Bern, commemorating Polish diplomats who helped rescue Jews from the Holocaust during World War II.

The diplomats, Aleksander Ładoś, Konstanty Rokicki, Juliusz Kuehl and Stefan Ryniewicz, produced passports of Latin American countries which helped hundreds of Jews to escape from Poland at a time when the country was under Nazi German occupation.
Aleksander Ładoś was Polish ambassador to Switzerland, while Konstanty Rokicki was a consul during World War II.
It is estimated that the Bern group of diplomats produced from several hundred to several thousand passports between 1941 and 1943.
