Polish skier dies after accident in Slovakia

A Polish skier has died after a serious accident in the western Tatra mountains in Slovakia.

The 61-year-old man had been skiing in the Zverovka resort in northern Slovakia, close to the Polish border.
Witnesses immediately summoned mountain rescuers, who were unable to save the man despite resuscitation efforts which lasted over an hour, Slovak officials said.
The skiing season has started in a number of Polish and Slovak ski resorts earlier than usual after heavy snowfall.
