Man jailed for enslaving Polish immigrant in UK

A 42-year-old man from Nottingham, central England, has been sentenced to more than three years in jail for enslaving two men, at least one of whom was a Polish immigrant, the BBC has reported.

The 42-year-old, named as Edward Zielinski, was accused of "modern slavery" between 21 May 2013 and 1 June 2017.
According to British police, Zielinski took his victims' ID documents and threatened them with violence, the BBC said.
One of the victims alleged that he was forced to sleep on a bare wooden floor and to urinate into a plastic bottle at night so as not to wake Zielinski and his wife, the broadcaster said.
The victim claims that he was paid in cigarettes and alcohol as well as GBP 10 each week, despite earning GBP 300 working at an employment agency, according to the BBC.
Police claimed that one of the victims had also been forced to work from 8am to 4am making greeting cards, the BBC reported. (vb/pk)
