Countries in this region have complained that shoppers are being offered lower-quality versions of brand-name food products sold in the EU.

“Deliberate discrimination against consumers based on their country of origin is unacceptable and we have the right to expect the equal treatment we deserve from other partners in the EU, including EU institutions,” Szydło told the gathering in the Slovak capital, Bratislava.

The summit is entitled "For equal quality of products for all".

Szydło said: “We have welcomed a European Commission decision to start work on clarifying the problem of two standards in food quality.”

The Visegrad Group promotes regional cooperation between the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary.
