Economic ties promoted at Poland Day in Astana

Poland's president has encouraged other countries to forge economic ties with Poland as he opened National Day of Poland at the Astana Expo.

“I encourage ties with Poland and partnership in various fields but especially economic cooperation,” President Andrzej Duda said in his opening speech.
In keeping with Expo 2017’s main theme of “future energy,” Duda said Poland’s two-storey pavilion at the event was promoting clean coal energy and biomass energy production.
“In Astana, we are showing many new developments regarding future energy,” Duda said, adding that “energy sovereignty” could be built on modern technologies.
Meanwhile, the Kazakh prime minister said Astana wanted to work with Warsaw to develop green technologies.
The Polish pavilion at Expo 2017 in Astana also aims to generate support for Łódź's candidacy to host the event in 2022. Duda said a Łódź expo would focus on urban revitalisation, adding that cities should renovate and develop to be friendly for residents and visitors.
Some 300,000 people have visited Poland’s stand at the expo in Astana, which is running from 10 June to 10 September.
Duda and his wife Agata are also expected to meet Poles living in Kazakhstan and visit a Polish building supplies factory. (vb/pk)
