The honour – the Commander's Cross with Star of the Order of Merit - was bestowed on Hodges in recognition of his “commitment to the development of Polish-US military cooperation, the strengthening of NATO’s eastern flank and enhancing US presence in Poland," according to Marcin Skowron, a spokesman for the Polish president’s National Security Bureau (BBN).

The American general was on Tuesday a special guest of ceremonies as Poland marked Armed Forces Day. The highlight of the ceremonies was a military parade in Warsaw that also featured troops from the United States and other NATO countries. (str/pk)
