An international selection panel to nominate a Polish city which will serve as the 2016 European Capital of Culture are spending the day in Wrocław, south-western Poland.
The panel includes six Polish experts and seven from EU countries who are assessing the cultural strategies of the candidate cities and the artistic calibre of events and their European dimension.
The panel will also assess the way the city bids reflect the specific character of the place and an extent to which local residents and NGOs are involved in shaping the cultural scene.
The experts have already been to Warsaw, Lublin and Katowice. From Wrocław, they will go to Gdansk, the last of five Polish cities competing for the ECC title.
On Tuesday the panel will announce their final verdict.
Two cities will serve as the European Capitals of Culture in 2016, one in Poland and one in Spain.
Next year the winning cities will be approved by the European Commission. (mk)
