Prince William and Kate arrive in Poland

William and Kate's three-day visit takes place as the post-Brexit fates of nearly one million Poles living in the UK remain unclear.

The visit started with a meeting with Polish President Andrzej Duda and First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda.

They royals visited the Warsaw Uprising Museum and met Polish and British WWII veterans, where they highlighted Polish-British military ties.

Then they headed to the Warsaw Spire skyscraper for an event for young entrepreneurs, where they were to promote start-ups and British-Polish business ties.

On Monday evening, Prince William, second in line to the British throne, will make his only public speech during a formal dinner in honour of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, at the Royal Łazienki park, while the British ambassador to Poland will read out a letter from the British monarch.

On Tuesday the royal couple will visit the former Stutthof German Nazi concentration camp in Gdańsk before attending a show at the Shakespeare Theatre and visit the European Solidarity Centre, where they will speak to key figures from Poland's Solidarity trade union and communist-resistance movement.

Prince William and Kate will meet again with the Polish first couple before heading to Germany on Wednesday morning.

Krzysztof Szcerski, a top aide to President Andrzej Duda, said that the royal visit to Poland was not a political one: “This is a visit of friendship and respect, a visit which focuses on good social relations between Poland and Great Britain.”
