Senior Ukrainian intelligence officer killed in Kiev car explosion: reports

A senior intelligence officer from Ukraine’s defence ministry was killed on Tuesday morning when his car exploded at an intersection in Kiev, according to media reports.

Ukraine’s National Police have confirmed that the driver killed when the Mercedes car exploded was 39-year-old Colonel Maxim Shapoval, the Ukrayinska Pravda paper said.
Polish media have called the incident an assassination attempt.
According to the PAP news agency, Ukrainian police are treating the explosion as a possible "terrorist" incident.
Two passersby were injured as a result of the explosion, PAP said. (vb/pk)
