PM: Poland and Slovakia determined to defend single market

Poland and Slovakia are determined to defend the single market against protectionism, said the Polish prime minister following a meeting with her Slovak counterpart on Wednesday.

She added that it is important for the Polish and Slovak governments to defend “the equal rights of our citizens and entrepreneurs in the single market”.

At a joint press conference with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Szydło said that the two agreed to continue conducting similar intergovernmental consultations in the future, which "are an opportunity to discuss many specific issues."

“During today's meeting we outlined many of our accomplishments and common goals,” Szydło said, adding that these topics included energy security, transport infrastructure, economy, security and defence, environmental protection, justice and internal affairs, social policy and tourism.

Szydło said that Poland and Slovakia needed to continue investing in a modern transport network between the two countries. (rg)
