Polish president sends condolences to British queen

“Please accept our deep sympathy after […] this act of violence, which aroused in all of us firm objections and a feeling of solidarity with the victims and their families," the president wrote.

"On behalf of the Polish nation and myself I want to assure you that in these painful moments we are close in our thoughts and prayers with the British people", the president added.

Duda said that terrorism was "a deadly challenge for our civilisation. We must stand together in defence of European values, the freedom and security of our citizens.

"This requires political responsibility, determination and courage which I trust will not run out and we will jointly counter the wave of terrorism - a source of one of the most serious crises affecting our world today."

In a message of condolence to Prime Minister Theresa May, her Polish counterpart Beata Szydło wrote that Poland is ready to grant Britain all assistance necessary to protect common European values. (mk/pk)
