Polish, French presidents discuss Weimar Triangle meet

The Weimar Triangle is a grouping made up of France, Germany and Poland.

The head of the Polish president's office, Krzysztof Szczerski, told the PAP news agency that the two presidents emphasised that “the Weimar Triangle starts as quickly as possible”.

Szczerski added that the date of the meeting was still to be set. First, it has to be arranged with German Chancellor Angela Merkel who is currently engaged in her country's election campaign.

“Most important seems to be the consent which we have reached, namely, a Polish-French initiative to hold a Weimar Triangle summit at the earliest possible opportunity”, Szczerski said.

He said the two presidents also discussed plans of political cooperation. Asked whether they referred to ideas of strengthening the integration of eurozone countries, Szczerski said that both Duda and Macron wanted to hold a discussion on Europe's future during a separate bilateral meeting.

“President Macron clearly stressed that trade and the European industry were areas within European policy where Polish-French partnership should especially thrive,” Szczerski said. (rg)
