International media confirmed on Thursday that the campaign had successfully taken over the nearby city of Tabqa and the nearby dam, a stronghold of the terrorist organisation in the region.

It is unclear how the Polish fighters were involved in the recent operation.

In several Facebook posts in recent weeks, the Polish soldiers have said that they travelled to Syria by their own means, and that they are not getting paid for fighting in the region.

“When the situation is out of control somewhere on the front, we jump on pickup trucks and drive to the area,” the group wrote, adding that such a journey could last up to six hours.

“Wrath of ‘Euphrates’ consists of ex-military and special forces veterans from around the globe, united to attack and put an end to the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq in their very heart and home. Their capital – Al-Raqqa,” a recent post in English read.

Nasser Haj Mansour, an adviser to the Syrian Democratic Forces militia group, was quoted by Reuters as saying the town and the adjacent Tabqa dam were now “completely liberated” after the group drove all Islamic State militants out.
