The two politicians discussed bilateral relations, negotiations with Great Britain after Brexit, security issues and Poland’s bid to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

"We discussed bilateral relations, which are intense due to considerable economic exchange, large investments, primarily Portuguese in Poland, but we hope that after this visit and maybe the next ones, Polish investments will increase in Portugal," said Waszczykowski at a joint press conference with Santos Silva.

Other discussed topics included ways to solve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, NATO and possible future cooperation within the UN.

"Poland is hoping to be elected a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in a month and we assume that in 2018-2019 we will also cooperate with Portugal, and certainly with the Portuguese representative, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres," said Waszczykowski.

Poland is vying to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2018-2019. The vote is due to take place in early June. To become a member of the UNSC, a country must win two thirds of the votes of the 193 countries in the UN General Assembly. (mol/pk)
