He started the visit on Monday with a lecture at Sydney's Macquarie University on challenges for Europe and the world, and on Poland’s stand on regional security and migration.

He will later give a lecture at the Australian National University in Canberra.

Also on Monday, Waszczykowski opened a European-Australian Business Council seminar where he highlighted business and investment opportunities in Poland.

Later in the visit, he is expected to meet representatives of the 170,000-strong Polish community in Australia.

A Polish foreign ministry spokesman said that Waszczykowski’s visit comes at the climax of Poland’s campaign for a non-permanent United Nations Security Council place for the years 2018-19.

The spokesman added that 2017 marks the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Poland and Australia. He described bilateral relations as very good, adding that Australia is Poland’s natural ally in NATO. (mk/vb/pk)
