“Over the last day three Ukrainian soldiers were killed and four wounded,” a statement released by the Ukrainian army on Facebook said.

The statement added that over a 24-hour period, the positions of Ukrainian troops were shot at by enemy forces a total of 65 times, adding that the separatists used weapons which were forbidden in the Minsk agreement.

This was the case in the Donetsk province in eastern Ukraine, were 120mm shells were used, the statement said, adding that pro-Russian separatists also used infantry fighting vehicles and heavy machine guns.

The conflict in eastern Ukraine has been ongoing since the spring of 2014. About 10,000 people have died due to fighting, and many residents have been forced out of the region.
