The trip is the first such visit to Mexico by a Polish head of state.

An official welcome ceremony for President Duda and his wife Agata Kornhauser-Duda was to take place in the early afternoon local time at the National Palace in Mexico City, the seat of the federal executive in Mexico.

The presidential couples from the two countries are then to take part in a ceremony at which trade contracts, including pledges to support investment and credit guarantees, will be signed.

"It is worth looking for markets like Mexico because it is a huge country, a huge market. We want to look for business opportunities here, which agreements concluded during this visit are to facilitate,” said Krzysztof Szczerski, head of Duda’s Cabinet.

He added that on his visit to Mexico, the president is being accompanied by a group of Polish entrepreneurs who are taking part in a Polish-Mexico economic forum.

Trade between Poland and Mexico is worth about USD 1.2 billion. Poland exports goods including telecommunication, radio and television equipment, car radios, tyres and trucks to Mexico.

Mexico exports cars manufactured by Fiat, Volkswagen and General Motors as well as medical tools to Poland.

On the first day of his visit, Duda met Poles living in Mexico. At a ceremony in the Polish embassy in the country’s capital, Duda handed out awards to representatives of the Polish community and thanked them for promoting a positive image of Poland.

During a meeting with several hundred Poles and Mexicans of Polish descent, Duda said that Mexico had always welcomed Poles.

"That is why today we can proudly say that Poles have been contributing to the culture of Mexico for hundreds of years and are still doing so today," he added.
