Crackdown on sex trafficking in Poland

Three people suspected of sex trafficking have been detained in Gdańsk, in northern Poland, Polish police have said.

Two Bulgarian men and a woman have been accused of “making financial gain from prostitution”, and can face up to 7.5 years imprisonment.
Police uncovered the alleged gang after investigating human trafficking for more than a year.
Officers seized more than PLN 100,000 (EUR 23,000) as well as jewellery, cars and computers in searches of properties occupied by the suspects.
Meanwhile, Poland's Internal Security Agency and Border Control officers on Sunday busted a gang of sex traffickers.
More than 250 women from Ukraine, Poland, Belarus and Russia were being used by the gang.
Some 300 officers took part in a campaign, which included searches of 18 locations in Poland’s south and saw 14 people charged.
The group is suspected to have been operating in Poland and Ukraine since late 2004.
Additionally, some police were allegedly also involved, and five people have been charged with abuse of power. (vb)
