The changes were announced by the Polish interior minister during a recent outline of plans for the next 12 months, saying that the new regulations would “Speed up the deportation of those who are trying to illegally enter Poland”. Details of the plans will be presented on Monday.
Speaking to the PAP news agency in an interview published on Sunday, the Border Guards' Łapiński said: “We are participating in this process of change and are presenting our own suggestions."
He added that “streamlining regulations and speeding up the procedures relating to security of the external borders of the European Union” are among the main priorities of the body.
“The changes will be in line with European law and the Schengen Code,” he said, referring to the agreement to allow free movement between EU countries.
Poland is considering amendments to its law on foreigners with the intention to create measures guarding against illegal migrants who might pose a terrorist threat.
“The aim is to introduce new border procedures and accelerate deportation of persons attempting to cross illegally into Poland,” said Mariusz Błaszczak, Poland's Interior Minister. (rg)
