Poland has nothing against the United States improving its relations with Russia under Donald Trump, but this should not happen at Poland’s expense, Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski suggested on Friday.

"You cannot criticise anyone for trying to improve their relations with Russia. We are a neighbour of Russia, and we would also like to achieve this,” Waszczykowski said.

He told private radio broadcaster RFM FM, that Poland is sending the Americans a message that it is good to improve bilateral relations, “but not at our expense”.

Poland has “nothing to be afraid of at the moment," Waszczykowski said, adding that Trump and his advisers “are thinking rationally; they think about this in the same way we do ... Their view of the world and their approach to the rivalry with Moscow are very similar to ours.” (str/rg)
