“This is a heavy armoured brigade, over 4,500 soldiers who will be deployed in Poland in five locations,” Macierewicz told Polish public broadcaster TVP.

At a Warsaw summit in July, NATO states decided to deploy four rotating multinational battalions of about 1,000 soldiers each to the military alliance’s eastern borders.

In addition, the United States announced that an armoured brigade, stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado, would be deployed.

Polish Radio reported that soldiers from the 3rd armoured brigade have reached Germany and on Friday were starting to unload heavy equipment sent by sea from the US to the port of Bremerhaven.

The equipment will be sent by train and in military convoys to Poland, initially to the western towns of Drawsko Pomorskie and Żagań, the PAP news agency reported.

Polish Radio added that part of the US brigade will then be deployed in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Romania, as well as in Poland.
