Polish FM: Russian warships in Baltic ‘aggressive and irresponsible’

Poland's Foreign Minister has described the deployment in the Baltic Sea of two Russian warships with long-range cruise missiles as “aggressive and irresponsible”.

In an interview for Polish Radio, Minister Witold Waszczykowski said that NATO has not displayed such a behaviour towards Russia in years.
He stressed that the decision taken at the recent NATO summit in Warsaw, to deploy four battalions on the Eastern flank of the alliance, is a symbolic support for the countries in that region, rather than an event of a military nature that could make Russia believe that it was facing any threat.
“The deployment of warships that are able to carry nuclear missile is therefore a disproportionate reaction to NATO’s recent decisions,” Waszczykowski said.
Polish Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz had earlier said that moving such ships on the Baltic changes the balance of power. (mk/rg)
