The decision, announced by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, comes in the run-up to next week’s NATO summit in Warsaw (8-9 July) and World Youth Days, to be held in Kraków, southern Poland, on 25-31 July.
The measure will stay in force for less than a month. Small border traffic is to be resumed on August 2.
The residents of border areas will be able to enter Polish territory with a visa and passport.
Russia has responded to the announcement by suspending laws regulating the facilitation of border-crossing for Polish citizens. (ał)
