Polish PM says Bill Clinton should apologise

“He should apologize, because this kind of statement is unjustifed and completely unfair,” she said in an interview with Polish Radio.

The former US president made the remarks at a rally in New Jersey in support of his wife Hillary Clinton in her campaign for the US presidency.

“Poland and Hungary – two countries that would not be free but for the United States and the long Cold War – have now decided this democracy is too much trouble,” he said.

“They want Putin-like dictatorships,” he continued.

Bill Clinton's comments follow a resolution adopted by the European Parliament last month in which MEPs argued that the rule of law, democracy and human rights are endangered in Poland.

The Polish American Congress has threatened to undermine Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign unless the comments are retracted. (nh)
