Polish programmers compete for medals in US

Three Polish student teams are competing at the International Collegiate Programming Contest in Orlando, Florida, with the teams representing universities from Warsaw, Krakow and Wroclaw.
The Warsaw University team, the reigning Central European champion, is among the favourites of the event. It won the World Championships in Orlando in 2003 and 2007, receiving the title of ‘the best young programmers in the world’.
Each team is asked to solve eleven practical problems in computer programming. They are of a high degree of complexity, modelled on real problems of modern business.
The event in has Orlando brought together teams from 105 universities from around the world. The elimination round was entered by over 8,300 teams from 88 countries.
Warsaw University is lobbying for hosting the next World Programming Championships in the Polish capital. (mk/jb)
