Balcerowicz is to jointly head a team that will advise Poroshenko and Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman on reforms in Ukraine.
Balcerowicz is to lead the group together with former Slovak finance minister Ivan Miklos.
Groysman said it would be a “great honor” to work with Balcerowicz and Miklos.
“I think that my position fully coincides with the views of the government. I want to say that the majority of ministers is set on reforms and change in the country," Groysman added.
Balcerowicz, meanwhile, said that "the development of Ukraine is much better than it would appear from reports about this country."
"I have to highlight these achievements, which are not always noticed in the West," he added.
Balcerowicz is an ex-finance minister and a former head of Poland’s central bank.
He was the architect of the economic “shock therapy” applied to Poland following the 1989 collapse of the communist regime in this country.
Back in February last year, Poroshenko invited Balcerowicz to help create a wide-ranging raft of reforms for Ukraine.
Poroshenko said at the time: “Ukraine, which has set out on the road of reform, is interested in Poland's experiences.” (pk)
