Latvia's broadcast watchdog says it has banned the Rossiya RTR Russian TV channel from the air for six months, claiming several programs had incited hatred.

Latvia's National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP) made the decision on Thursday.
News portal lsm.lv, operated by Latvia's public broadcasters, reported that the NEPLP claimed violations of Latvian media law and an European Audiovisual Media Services Directive in broadcasts aired on Rossiya RTR.
In a response on Twitter, the Russian embassy said that the Latvian authorities were taking steps to "wipe Russian mass media out of the country's media space", lsm.lv reported. (pk)
