The 31-year-old was found by a shoe-shiner at around 5.30 am local time, and Indonesian authorities have suggested that the Pole committed suicide.

The man had apparently only just arrived in the country, and police found hiking equipment in his luggage.

It is understood that the man was visiting Indonesia for the first time.

The Polish Embassy in Jakarta has been informed and it has contacted the victum's next of kin. (nh)
