During a joint press conference on Tuesday in Prague with his Czech counterpart Miloš Zeman, Duda said that every country should settle its own sovereign affairs, “without having to listen to instruction from European institutions or even other countries”.

The two heads of state discussed economic relations between their two countries, issues concerning energy security, this year's NATO summit slated to be held in Warsaw, as well as international politics.

The Czech president said that Brussels should not “moralise” to Poland.

“I expressed the view that the Polish government, which was created as a result of free elections, has every right to carry out activities for which it received a mandate in these elections.

"It should not be subject to moralising or criticism from the European Union, which should finally focus on its primary task – to protect the external borders of the Union,” Zeman said. (rg/pk)
