Meanwhile, in Latvia, the initiator of an online petition calling for the annexation of the country by Russia has received a six-month jail term, according to an article on niezalezna.pl headlined “Baltic countries do not give in to Moscow.”

All three men sentenced in Estonia are smugglers who worked for Russian intelligence, niezalezna.pl reported. It added that the Estonian General Prosecutor's Office found they had passed information to Russian officers about the functioning of Estonia’s border guards, the country’s army and security services.

Two of the men convicted, 21-year-old Estonian Aleksandr Rudnev and 42-year-old Pavel Romanov were sentenced in October, but the news has been made public only now, niezalezna.pl said, adding that they were given terms of two years and four years and 10 months respectively.

Several days ago, 32-year-old Estonian Maksim Gruzdev was handed out a four-year jail sentence, the website added. (pk)
