Prime Minister of Poland Beata Szydło and her Visegrad Group counterparts have called for a fence to be installed closing off Macedonia and Bulgaria's borders with Greece, as the refugee crisis continues.

We expect that at the March meeting of the European Council at the latest decisions will be taken that will allow for real control of the borders of the EU and effective measures to reduce the influx of refugees,” Szydło said on Monday evening in Prague, following the V4 meeting of the Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Slovakian prime ministers.

We have to have concrete solutions, namely, control of borders and control of the flow of refugees,” she added.

The V4 leaders have also expressed their support for the establishment of a European border guard.

Szydło noted that there is a need for cooperation with non-EU country Turkey.

The Visegrad Group was founded 25 years ago, following the collapse of the Iron Curtain, and a jubilee cake was cut on Monday. The four countries joined the EU in 2004.

“Thanks to our accession to the EU, today we can speak with one voice,” Szydło said.

“I am very happy about this, because today Europe is facing major challenges,” she argued. (nh/pk)
