Only 35 of the 160 Christian Syrians who were given asylum in Poland last year are still in the country, but the foundation which brought them is still trying to get more.

The families, mostly from the Syrian capital Damascus, arrived to Poland in July on the basis of visas obtained at the Polish embassy in Beirut and through the aid of Polish-based Estera Foundation.

The Rzeczpospolita daily reported on Tuesday that despite these numbers, the foundation is trying to encourage the Polish government to help bring more Christian Syrians into the country.

Earlier this month, Polish PM Beata Szydło announced that up to 400 refugees will be relocated to the country in 2016 as part of the previous government’s commitments on the issue. (ał/rg)
