Ukraine is an important ally of Poland, and will continue receiving assistance from Warsaw, said Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski during the 9th Europe-Ukraine Forum underway in the central Polish city of Łódź.

“Ukraine is a sovereign nation and has the right to choose its own path of economic development and international cooperation. Poland will support it on this path,” Waszczykowski told the Forum on Sunday.

According to speakers from the Ukrainian Razumkov Centre think-thank at the Forum, Ukraine was hit by economic, political, military and international instability in 2015, and following a ceasefire deal with Russia, the conflict moved to a "low intensity" phase.

The Forum, which kicked off on Sunday, is being attended by around 500 guests from the EU, Russia, CEE countries, as well as the United States.

It lasts until 26 January. (rg/pk)
