FM wants to talk to German ambassador about ‘anti-Polish’ remarks

Poland's Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski has invited Germany’s ambassador for talks over “anti-Polish” remarks by German politicians.

“Minister Witold Waszczykowski has invited Rolf Nikel, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Warsaw on Monday, in connection with anti-Polish remarks by some German politicians,” Polish foreign ministry spokesman Artur Dmochowski said in a statement.
Dmochowski told the private TVN24 television station that Waszczykowski would present "a position which represents the Polish government, which is the position of defending Polish interests and Poland’s image".
“Anti-Polish statements by German politicians, which we have been hearing and reading for some time, are damaging,” Dmochowski added.
“This is not about one particular statement, they are many of them,” Dmochowski replied when asked if he was referring to comments by European Parliament President Martin Schulz.
Schulz has accused the Polish government of practicing “Putin-style” politics after it pushed through controversial changes to the media and judiciary. (pk)
