New US Ambassador arrives in Warsaw

Paul Wayne Jones, the new American Ambassador to Poland, has arrived in Warsaw.

According to the US Embassy Press Bureau, he will present his credentials to President Andrzej Duda “at the earliest opportunity”, after which “he will begin working with Polish counterparts to strengthen US-Poland relations, increase trade between the two countries, and further enhance our strategic security partnership.”

Fifty five year-old Paul Wayne Jones is a career diplomat. He served as the US Ambassador to Malaysia (2010-2013) and as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs (2013-15). His earlier positions included those of Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Mission to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Vienna (2004-05) and also at the US Embassy in Skopje, FYROM (1996-99). He speaks Spanish, Russian, and some Polish.

His wife, Catherine, the daughter of retired diplomat Brandon Grove, has several cookery books to her credit. They have two daughters, Alexandra and Hale.

Paul Wayne Jones was sworn in as US Ambassador to Poland by Secretary of State John Kerry on 11 September. He replaces Stephen Mull who returned to Washington on 29 August. (mk/rg/rk)
