The incident occurred near the town of Cadca, not from the Czech border.

Slovak police say that the lorry, which had a Polish number plate, had set off from Hungary and was bound for Germany.

According to Slovak portal cas.sk, the Polish driver claimed he did not know how the Syrians got into his vehicle.

The refugees, who included three teenagers, together with twenty adult men, tried to flee the scene following the accident.

However, they have all since been apprehended.

Prime Minister of Poland Ewa Kopacz is due to hold a Government Crisis Management Team meeting on Saturday, following a meeting in Prague on Friday afternoon with her counterparts in the V4 Group (Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia). (nh/rk)
