Stephen Mull, the US Ambassador to Poland, has said that President Barack Obama will want to closely cooperate with President Andrzej Duda when the latter takes office on 6 August.

Asked whether the US and Polish presidents will meet during the UN Summit in New York in September, Ambassador Mull said that the timetable for President Obama is still a work in progress.

However, Mull added, that sooner or later such a meeting is sure to take place.

“What I do know is that President Duda will host the NATO Summit in Poland in 2016. I know that President Obama will want to closely cooperate with Duda, so I am convinced that a meeting will take place one day,” Mull told the TVN broadcaster.

Mull’s replacement to head the Polish embassy, Paul Jones, has been nominated by President Obama.

On Wednesday Paul Jones spoke in front of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US Senate.

“Poland has become one of our closest allies in NATO,” Jones said.

“Our partnership is based on democratic values and engagement in politics aimed at peace and social prosperity.”

“He's a great guy. I've known him for 25 years,” Mull said of his potential successor, adding that Jones's hearing before the Senate committee was "very successful".

The senate still needs to confirm the president’s nomination. (rg)
