The news was broken by Ambassador Mull in a tweet early on Tuesday morning.
“[US] President Obama yesterday nominated my successor @AmbassadorJones. Great choice!,” Mull wrote on the social network.
Jones was earlier an ambassador to Malaysia and currently works in Europe at the State Department.
On Monday Obama nominated three ambassadors including Jones. The other two are Carolyn Patricia Alsup and Daniel H. Rubinstein who will head the embassies in the Gambia and Tunisia respectively.
“I am confident that these experienced and hardworking individuals will help us tackle the important challenges facing America, and I am grateful for their service. I look forward to working with them,” Obama was quoted in a White House statement as saying.
