Helicopter searches have been led since Saturday, but as of yet no trace of the 40-year-old man has been found.
The climber was last seen a week ago at the Vallot shelter, some 4,362 metres above sea level.
The missing man had intended to take on the peak with a companion, but the latter apparently pulled out mid-climb, owing to a lack of experience.
Mont Blanc is arguably the most hazardous peak in Europe, and each year the mountain claims a number of lives.
The worst incident in recent years occurred in July 2012 when nine climbers of various nationalities were killed in an avalanche. (nh)
