About 30,000 people took part in a march on Sunday in Moscow in honour of Nemtsov, in what was the largest opposition gathering in recent months.

Nemtsov, who served as deputy prime minister from 1997 to 1998 during Boris Yeltsin's presidency, was gunned down while walking to a Moscow restaurant with his girlfriend on Friday night.

Just hours earlier he had criticized Putin's policy in Ukraine in a radio interview, although the Kremlin has strenously denied any involvement in the killing.

At present, the full line-up of the Polish delegation for the funeral is unclear. However, it has been reported that Jan Lityński, an advisor to President Bronisław Komorowski, will take part.

Borusewicz was a key figure in the Solidarity trade union and spent four years in hiding after martial law was declared in Poland in 1981. He became a senator in 2005. (nh)
