The 45 MRAP vehicles (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) All Terrain Vehicles which were donated by the US, were manufactured by Oshkosh Defense in 2009-2010.

According to industry website polska-zbrojna.pl, the vehicles which have less than 3,000 km on the odometer, are worth more than USD 7.5 million.

“In the short term, the equipment will be used in exercises, military training, and when necessary, in combat,” Gen. Lech Majewski, General Commander of the Armed Forces and Types of Special Forces told a press conference at the handover ceremony on Wednesday.

US Ambassador Stephen Mull said that the 45 vehicles will be able to be used by the Polish Special Forces for its operations, and is just one of the benefits of a partnership between Poland and the USA.

“This is an example of a strong tradition of Polish-American partnership, and the example of a sustained commitment by the US to protect Poland,” Mull explained.

“We Americans are proud of our partnership with Poland and determined to deliver on our commitment to provide Poland with lasting security and prosperity.” (rg)
