Poland to accept 100 Syrian refugees

Poland will accept 100 refugees from Syria in 2016, Deputy Interior Minister Piotr Strachanczyk has said.

“A very important subject, especially in the critical situation that Syria finds itself in, is the implementation of the recommendation regarding Poland’s access to the programme of refugee resettlement, especially for Syrian refugees,” Strachanczyk told reporters according to Onet.pl.
Poland has undertaken to implement a pilot scheme to accept 100 refugees as part of an international effort to resettle 100,000 Syrians in response to the a crisis that UN has described as the biggest since the Second World War.
In the three years of civil war in Syria, roughly 3.5 million people have fled the country with twice as many internally displaced in a nation of 23 million.
Lebanon, with native population of 4.5 million, has taken 1.5 million refugees from Syria. (an)
