Poland’s President Bronislaw Komorowski approved the deployment of the Polish air force to protect the airspace of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

The deployment is part of the NATO mission to protect the Baltic airspace and consists of four MiG-26 fighter jets with 120 soldiers as crew and support personnel, the National Security Bureau said in a press release.

The Polish contingent will be stationed at the Szawle airport in Lithuania.

The deployment is the sixth mission of the kind by the Polish air force. The previous missions took place in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 and the beginning of this year. (an)
